24/2/18 Golden Circle Circuit

Yay!! Today the roads on the circuit are displayed as ‘green’, so I take off early with my trusty GPS installed in my rental car. First stop, the ‘Geysir’, with boiling and steaming mudpits, and exploding geysers which spout water 30 metres into the air every few minutes. You wait for the boiling to get intense at ground level and up she spurts!!  Next, Gullfoss, a waterfall in the Hvita river canyon…..spectacular! Then to a volcanic crater lake, Kerid, filled with a milky blue- green water and stark black and red/orange slopes. Can’t believe how quickly the weather changed from sunny skies, to strong blowing wind and snow blizzard! Some gorgeous Icelandic horses along the way came to greet me on the way to Thingvellir National Park, the last part of the drive in an action packed 8 hour day. And of course, a church on the edge of a lake, amazing blue water catchments…such a great day of exploration.
