Whales, glaciers and rainforest trails……what a lovely day! Travelling on Auke Lake on Captain Annette’s boat to see humpback whales…and there was a lot, even babies…lots of fluking and breeching!! One even submerged under our boat. They soon head south to Hawaii for the winter, to mate and calve.
Then stellar sea lions appeared around the point….their only larger relatives are the walrus and elephant seal.
Walked along a rainforest trail with an understory dominated by moss, Sitka spruce trees, western hemlock, willow and black cottonwood. And we came upon a glacier….the Mendenhall, the photos show you only 3 miles of the 13 mile length. Awesome!!
